A Waiting Room

Here –
a waiting room with
others attached by stairs &
a dark corridor –
I pause as
my watch rests –
minutes’ll
clog as I drain my thoughts
[in fixed rotation] –
A nurse
flits between visits to beds
& becks & calls & men with
less concerns these days [I
do not long for her bed] –
I
will wait on my consultant
