Poem #2,710 | I did my maths
I did my maths after we spoke
inside Waterstone’s –
Eighteen
years for her –
Levodopa took
after seven =
eleven+ years of
poisoning by side affects –
I’ll
not give in –
her husband well
enough to push her ‘round –
I
envy that staying power in all
encounters with still-couples
as I walk –
inconvenienced –
I
do well
[all resolves doubled
by circumstance & multiplied
by stubbornness] –
She spoke
with this condition’s murmur
[but enough to still be heard]
