Poem #2,748 | They are now gathering

Mike Bell/ October 12, 2023/ www.mikebellpoems.com

They are now gathering
outside Crowborough’s
post office – droppers &
pickers – bundle-heavy –
9:04 & that glass door is
still locked – watch-look
to confirm tardy at time-
keeping – huffs will pass
once inside – A mist lugs
over rooftops as us age-
bound go shop to shop –
then coffees in Waitrose
& one of their fine cakes
afore loneliness returns
at our open front doors
